Newly elected BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht from Mustafabad, the neighbourhood that bore the brunt of the violence during the 2020 riots, has announced that the name of the constituency will be changed to Shiv Puri or Shiv Vihar, citing its substantial Hindu population.
After winning, talking to the media, Mohan Singh Bisht said that I'll change the name of Mustafabad.
"...I had said that if I win, I'll change the name of Mustafabad to Shiv Puri or Shiv Vihar... I'll do it...," Mohan Singh Bisht said, as quoted by ANI, adding that people are worried "with the name Mustafa, so this work has to be done. Why can't the area where Hindus are living be named Shiv Puri or Shiv Vihar instead of Mustafabad."

It is the right of the 58 percent that the name should be changed accordingly. The name could be Shiv Vihar or Shiv Puri.

The 67-year-old secured victory over AAP's Adeel Ahmad Khan in Mustafabad by 17,578 votes.
Who Is BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht?BJP leader Mohan Singh Bisht has been a well-known face in Delhi politics. Bisht was first elected MLA from the Karawal Nagar seat in 1998. Bisht had been winning from Karawal Nagar in the last three elections and retained this seat till 2015, but this time he was finally replaced by AAP leader Kapil Mishra.
Mohan Singh Bisht defeated AAP's Durgesh Pathak and won the Karawal Nagar seat in 2020. According to BJP's internal surveys, Karawal Nagar voters are said to have preferred Mishra's Purvanchal background.
Mustafabad's 'M' FactorThis victory for Mustafabad is not only historic but also remarkable, as the constituency has a high density of 'Muslim' population, which is around 40% of the total population.
