James Maddison scored the winner in the 13th minute to help Spurs leapfrog United in the table, leaving Amorim's side down in 15th having suffered back-to-back defeats.

United have lost eight of their last 12 Premier League games (W3 D1); since the first game in this spell (December 4 v Arsenal), the only sides to lose more matches in the competition are the current bottom two, Leicester City (nine) and Southampton (10).

Overall this term, United have lost 12 of their 25 top-flight matches (W8 D5), their most defeats at this stage of a league campaign since 1973-74 (13).

They had chances to equalise, with Alejandro Garnacho leading the charge, though he sent a glorious opening blazing over the bar shortly after Maddison had opened the scoring.

"It was the difference of the game, they scored, and we didn't," Amorim told BBC Match of the Day.

"We had the opportunities. We had situations in transitions, trying to get a result, but in the end, they scored, and we didn't.

"I am not worried. I understand our fans; and what the media think about it. I hate to lose, that feeling is the worst.

"The rest I am not thinking about. I am here to help my players. I understand my situation, my job, I am confident on my work, and I just want to win games.

"The place in the table is my worry. I am not worried about me."

United were plagued by injuries in the build-up to this match, with Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo ruled out, and Amorim worried the latter may be ruled out for the rest of the season.

It left Victor Lindelof as the sole senior player on the bench, with Amorim only making one substitution, which came in the 91st minute.

By replacing Casemiro, Chido Obi-Martin became United's third-youngest ever Premier League player (17 years, 79 days), behind only Angel Gomes (16y 263d) and Shola Shoretire (17y 19d).

India, the most successful team in the competition, now have five titles, including back-to-back triumphs in 2023 and 2024. The victory adds to their bronze medal secured at the Paris Olympic Games last month.

After a goalless first quarter, Korea struck just 36 seconds into the second quarter with Jungjun Lee finding the net due to a mistake from Pakistan goalkeeper Abdullah Ishtiyaq Khan. The goal remained the difference between the two teams till the half-time.

Asked why he opted not to give the youngsters a more significant chance, Amorim said: "It is the hardest competition in the world. I am trying to be careful with them [the youngsters].

"I felt the team was pushing for the goal and I felt I don't want to change. But they will play.

"You try to read the game, and understand what you see in training. The team were pushing for the goal, and I didn't feel the need to change.

"We want to recover the players. I think we can recover some players for the next game. We have to be together to finish the season and start over."hawkplay
